The idea for the Rough Notebook came to him in a moment of inspiration at the Vanves Flea Market in Paris.

Unlike the larger and more tourist-heavy markets, Vanves is known for its intimate atmosphere, offering a wide range of vintage and antique items at reasonable prices. It’s a beloved spot not only for visitors but also for locals searching for hidden treasures.

One early morning, he set out with a friend to browse the market, looking for items to stock their shop. As they wandered past the various antique stalls, he stopped in front of a small shop that exclusively sold old books. Drawn in by the orderly display, he picked up a single volume. The book’s pages were unevenly cut, their rough edges giving it a sense of nostalgia.

As he looked around, he noticed that every book in the shop shared this unique characteristic—uncut, irregular pages, each carrying traces of the people who had once read them. That moment sparked the idea that would become Rough Notebooks.

Excited by the concept, he immediately visited a notebook factory and consulted the technicians. However, they told him that such a design was impossible with modern bookbinding techniques. Still, he refused to give up. By rethinking the manufacturing process, they were able to recreate the raw, untrimmed aesthetic—bringing Rough Notebooks to life.

Now, each notebook is as unique as the person who uses it, embracing imperfections and individuality.
